Despite its small size, Delaware continues to increase its solar capacity, at a rapid pace. It is not one of the sunnier states, but strong solar policies are driving the industry. The state’s renewable portfolio standard (RPS) has set a target of achieving 25% of its power from renewables by 2026, with 3.5% required to come from solar.

Solar Incentives

Your solar panels will often produce more electricity than you need, but thanks to Delaware’s net metering policy, you will be able to sell this back to the grid in exchange for credits on your utility bill. Utility Solar Rebate Programs: Customers of Delmarva Power in Delaware are eligible for a cash rebate from the utility to reduce the cost of their solar installation. Delaware Electric Cooperative: Ratepayers receive $0.50/W of solar power installed (up to 5 kW), and $0.20/W for any additional solar capacity. The Municipal Green Energy Program pays customers of qualifying Delaware municipal utilities a cash rebate for a portion of their solar installation costs. In addition, you qualify for the federal solar tax credit.

Please note: The value of your property will only increase if you own, rather than lease, your solar system. However, a leased solar system may increase your home’s marketability.
